Since waves should be brushed, moisturized and tied down with a durag and a wave cap, they are bound to gather dirt, gunk and a lot of product build-up. So, how do clean a silk/ velvet durag for beginners?
The fact of the matter is that durags tend to be smelly due to dirt and sweat which is very uncomfortable both for you and the people around you. Here are the steps you can take to ensure that the durag is clean without compromising its quality;
- Soak it in cold water overnight to remove all the product bulid-up, sweat and dirt.
- Use a good detergent with color guard just so ensure that the color does not run.
- Gently rub the durag and allow suds to build up.
- Rinse until the water is clear, gently wring and hang it in a warm dry place and let it completely air dry.
Can you put a velvet durag in the washing machine?
It is not preferable to put your velvet durag in the washer because it may damage the delicate fibers. But if you have to put your durag in the washing machine, put it in a hand wash cycle and light cycle wash for a more gentler cleanse and to avoid destroying the fabric.
Can you put a silk durag in the washing machine?
If you have to put your silk durag in the washer, be sure to opt for a low temperature and wring out gently or use a slow spin cycle.
Can you put a velvet/silk durag in the dryer?
